The abrasion between soils and the carpet fibers that occurs during walking creates wear. Naturally, when new carpeting is first installed, it is not wearing. However, as time passes and the carpets receive additional use, the soil deposited by normal traffic begins to wear the carpet fibers. The soils deposited are also sticky and the carpet fibers begin sticking together which creates matting. For these reasons, manufacturers require that carpeting be professionally cleaned once a year to maintain their warranty. Large families, families with several small children, and families with pets may require more frequent cleanings.
